The St. Hedwig’s Cathedral was constructed during the reign of Kingdom of Prussia under his majesty, King Friedrich II around 18th century. The permission to build the cathedral given by the king paved the way in collecting financial donations all over Europe to establish the symbol of religious tolerance, which is the cathedral itself during the Prussian reign.

The inspiration for the building of the cathedral was drawn from the Pantheon in Rome courtesy of Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff and then later on the construction was administered by Johann Buomann.

More About St. Hedwig’s Cathedral

Located on Bebelplatz (a public square in Berlin), St. Hedwig’s Cathedral was named after Saint Hedwig of Andechs who is both patrons saints of Silesia and Brandenburg. The church has also served as the instrument in commemorating the arrival of immigrants of Roman Catholic Silesian in Berlin and Brandenburg.

St. Hewdwigs was entirely burned out in 1943 due to air raids in Berlin and then afterwards, the cathedral was rebuilt for almost a decade, from 1952 to 1963.
