Do you want to see the entire Berlin for only an hour? That is possible—wonderfully possible! Just have a visit at the Funkturm and you’ll be able to see the whole German city!

How Lanky is “the Lanky Lad?”

“Der lange lulatsch”—this is how Berlin natives call the Funkturm. In English, it means “the lanky lad.” You’ll never wonder why if you get to see how tall this tower is.

The total height of Funkturm is about 150m. This may not be the tallest tower in Berlin but this is one of the most attractive and historical.

The Funkturm’s Past

Without H. Straumer, the Funkturm will never be among your target Berlin travel points. This tower was made to symbolize the newly-conceived grounds of exhibition in Charlottenburg.

The tower’s construction was finished in 1924 but it was only operated after two years. The Funkturm was opened to the public during the Third IFA Berlin International Telecommunication Exhibition.

Meanwhile, the steel that made up the entire Funkturm is the same steel used to construct the Eiffel Tower.

The creation of Funkturm improved the radio broadcasting quality in Berlin as early as 1923. But now, this is one of the most attractive sites in the German city for foreign tourists.

What’s In Funkturm?

Like other towers, the Funkturm also has its own restaurant and viewing platform.

You can be at the Funkturm’s restaurant at about the 55th meter while you’ll get to see the whole Berlin at the 126th meter.

Once at the viewing point, you can see a picturesque and panoramic view of Berlin like its houses, forests, lakes, and a lot more. At night, you might see Berlin as a starry night’s reflection on Earth because of the glittering lights from the city’s buildings.

The Funkturm’s Opening Days and Hours

The Funkturm’s viewing point is open from 10am to 11pm. But you can only be there until 8pm on Mondays.

The tower’s restaurant, on the other hand, can operate on a Monday upon request. The restaurant is regularly open from Wednesday to Sunday, 11:30am to 11pm. On Tuesdays, it is open from 6pm to 11pm.

The Funkturm is totally close on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. Emergency closure of the tower may happen during a bad weather.

Entrance Fees to the Funkturm

Going to the viewing point and the restaurant requires different fees for the lift.

To the viewing point, the fee is about 4 Euros for adults and 2 Euros for children and students with ID.

To the restaurant, the fee is about 2 Euros for adults and 1 Euros for children and students with ID.

Getting a good view of Berlin as well as visiting a city’s historical site needs not to be very expensive. With some Euros, you can already see the entire Berlin within an hour and say that this is wonderfully possible!
